Universal Credit
Universal Credit (UC) Managed Migration
This is the process where people who are in reciept of legacy benefits will have their claims transferred over to UC. The six legacy benefits are:
Working Tax Credit (WTC), Child Tax Credit (CTC), Income Support (IS), Income Related Employment and Support Allowance (IR ESA), Income Related Jobseekers Allowance (IR JSA) and Housing Benefit (HB).
Claimants will be sent a Migration Notice letter by the DWP telling them when their legacy award will end and contain a date when they MUST make a claim for UC by to continue to get support. If you do not make this claim by this date your existing benefit payments will stop.
The DWP have made a commitment that no one would be worse off when migrating to UC - this is called Transitional Protection. However, this amount is only protected if you migrate by the date specified on your Managed Migration Notice letter and you do not make a new claim for UC prior to recieving your Managed Migration Notice letter.
All 600,000 households in reciept of ESA and ESA with HB will be migrated to UC.
