The Creative Writing Group at Castlemilk Stables meet once per week and create stories/poems together. However, recently the group has seen self-led because funding has not been available to fund a facilator. Nonetheless, the opportunity arose to apply to " Scotland's Year of Stories 2022 Fund". The Community Development Assistant met with the group, brainstormed what the fund could be used for and we applied to the fund collaboratively. We were successful and this enabled us to work with freelancers to create pieces of writing and a short film which included each persons stories, voiceovers and photos.
"Fables from the Stables" took place on Wednesday 13th July 2022 between 1pm-4pm.
The film’s premiere took take place in the courtyard of Castlemilk Stables, a 17th Century stables block. It was accompanied by a series of creative writing workshops for all ages(led by the writing group), performances by the Writing Group and a professional storyteller for the children, also an exhibition of photographs which shared local people’s stories/poems.
Some feedback from the day was as follows:
- "That was the first time I've ever been in the Stables, what a beautiful building, I loved every minute of it, well done to every involved" - Community Member
- "It was absolutely fantastic, the readers and their stories were brilliant" - Community Member
- "It was lovely to see all the photographs and the writing displayed on the walls, the video was amazing, the story writing with the children was lots of fun" - Writing Group Member
- "We had great fun doing the project, I hope we get another opportunity to do something else" - Writing Group Member
We celebrated stories & talent, shared memories & food, took part in several writing workshops and more! It was a great success with around 40 people attending. Huge thanks to all local writers & artists, Castlemilk Youth Complex Cafe for the delicious food and all the funders listed below.
This event has been supported by the Year of Stories 2022 Community Stories Fund. This fund is being delivered in partnership between VisitScotland and Museums Galleries Scotland with support from National Lottery Heritage Fund thanks to National Lottery players.
