The project will encourage people to use and participate in activities within Castlemilk Park and Cathkin Braes.
We have been consulting with the local community and local organisations since June 2010 to find out what people see as both the problems with the Park and the new opportunities there are to use and regenerate the area. The community created a vision statement that the Park would ‘bring significant environmental, community and economic benefits to Castlemilk’.
We have recently obtained funding for a new post and in May 2011 Cassiltoun will have its first Community Woodlands Officer. They will build on existing activities by working with the Go Play project and the Health Walks group but they will also create and develop new opportunities with local schools to have outdoor lessons, develop a Forest schools initiative and provide skills training and volunteering opportunities for disadvantaged people from the area.
